Review of Gaia Hotel Reserve in Costa Rica

  • scarlet macaw gaia hotel

Manuel Antonio is a popular destination for romantic couples wanting to relax, encounter lots of wildlife,  and enjoy the pristine white sandy beaches.  The Gaia Hotel in Costa Rica is a boutique style hotel with modern luxury in the pristine hills overlooking the ocean.   Nearby is Manuel Antonio National Park, one of the most visited in the country.

The hotel was built in 2006 with 22 suites from Jungle view to Deluxe loft suites.  The personal concierge service received by the guests is top-notch and something to consider when choosing your Costa Rica vacation.

We loved visiting the property which gave us a warm welcome at the entrance gate to the restaurant while we waited for our tour.  Find out more about the Gaia Hotel in Costa Rica and what makes it so special for couples, honeymoons, and small wedding guests in our post.

Welcoming guests at Gaia

My taxi driver dropped me off at the entrance gates, with my bags in hand I was escorted by golf cart up the hill to the main entrance of the building.  In this covered area to the right is the Terra Spa and just to the left of the spa is an elevator to take you to the 2nd floor.

As you enter the restaurant you will see the reception room on your left.  For guests of the hotel, this is where you will spend about 30 minutes in the air-conditioned reception room meeting your personal concierge and going over details of your interests for your comfortable stay.

Your personal concierge can suggest tours in the area as well as other local restaurants you might like to try.  They really take the time to get to know you on a personal level.  This is what I love about boutique hotels.  At Gaia your not just another guest like larger hotels, you’re a SPECIAL guest.

From here you’ll be shown your fabulous room to enjoy a relaxing stay of luxury.

Rooms at Gaia

The hotel offers a blend of modern design, traditional cultural influences, touches or natural woods & stones with subtle hints of color in the pillows and artwork from the owner’s collection.  The crisp white top-off-the-line linens provides a cozy feel to snuggle up while viewing some of the latest on the Netflix channel.

The suite sitting areas offer a great place to curl up and read your book in comfort if you want some quiet time to yourself.  The adjustable central air-conditioning will help keep you cool during your stay.  A nice added touch is the closets with a safe so you can unpack, unwind, and not have to worry about living out of a suitcase.

The bathrooms offer plenty of space with ample lighting, large shower with adjustable sprays, and windows that open for a view of the ocean.   The windows are all covered with screens so you don’t need to worry about bugs or birds coming in.

The terrace is for the guests of the deluxe suites so couples can relax & enjoy a more intimate time together.  The covered cabana bed can be left open to the Pacific ocean views or closed for privacy.  The views provide the perfect backdrop of the reserve with Manuel Antonio National Park off in the near distance.

If you chose to drive with a rental car to Gaia you can park just off to the right as you enter the main gate.  At Gaia, they have security so you’ll always feel safe on the property.

What we loved about Gaia

Not only is the staff friendly, food delicious but Gaia offers transportation to the beach at Manuel Antonio National Park every day from 7:30am – 4pm.  Ask your concierge about using the lockers at the park and renting lounge chairs & umbrellas.  They offer this service to all guests staying with them.

The hotel has a private reserve where you can see the Scarlet Macaws every day except Monday at around 3:30pm.  The tour is also included in your package and something you don’t want to miss.  At Gaia, they are really passionate about helping build the Scarlet Macaw population in the country.  During my time here at Gaia and speaking with Sandy I could tell how passionate she was about the program.  Click here to read more about it Macaw Program.
