One quick decision had me traveling from Costa Rica to Panama. It was on my buck list and only a short flight away, so I thought hey why not make it a stop on my way home. This was my first time staying at the Dreams Delight Playa Bonita in Panama. This property belongs to the AM Resorts collection. In case you don’t know it’s a great brand for all inclusive luxury vacations. Here I spent only 2 days to relax and get ready for my trip to the Panama Canal.
Ready to experience an unlimited luxury resort with lots of amenities? Here is how I enjoyed my staying at the Dreams Playa Bonita Resort & Spa
The Dreams Delight Playa Bonita Resort is located on the Pacific Coast in Panama. This 5-star property borders along the dark sandy shores of Playa Bonita. The resort features a pool with swim-up bar, gourmet a la carte restaurants, a children’s play area, and a world-class spa. If you happen to stay between the months of July thru December turtles come to lay eggs in the sand. This is something spectacular to see.
The resort offers a 24 hour fully equipped gym, café & pastries bar (loved this area to relax and enjoy my coffee), a gazebo on the beach to host the perfect wedding, and lots more.
Coco Café serving premium coffee & deli snacks
At Coco Café of course I had to try the specialty coffee along with some pastries, and bite-size tuna sandwiches. If you don’t want to sit at the café seating close by is a little sitting area that’s nice a quiet.
Located in the capital of Panama is the main airport Tocumen. Beside the airport, they’re building a new larger one which I’m sure all the international flights will arrive & depart at some point soon. I flew in on Copa Airlines for the first time. Copa has the majority of counters at this airport.
There’s lots of shops and places to eat while you wait for your flight. I was surprised at the size it’s actually seemed larger than the airport in San Jose (Costa Rica).
The only thing I found annoying was charging money for the luggage cart. Getting through customs was a breeze, at least my first time. Whew! Even my private transportation was waiting for me. Sure made everything off to a good start to travel to the Dreams Playa Bonita Panama Resort & Spa.
During my stay I checked into a partial ocean view room with a king bed. My room had a comfy sofa to lounge, desk by the patio, and a elegant tiled bathroom with all necessary amenities. The patio doors lead to a balcony with chairs & a drink table to enjoy your morning coffee or watch the sunset.
Check in at this resort isn’t until 3pm so if you come early be prepared to wait in the lobby or pay extra $30 USD to take advantage of the restaurants, bars, and grounds. This happens a lot at resorts, but my first encounter of a seamless flight and airport transfer had me arrive at 10am.
The bed was really comfortable with a duvet to keep you warm. I took advantage of the couch to lounge but to be honest spent most of my time at yes the office desk. Opening the patio doors for a nice ocean breeze sure made it a nice work environment.
Restaurants & Bars
Portofino Restaurant serving Italian cuisine
At Portofino Restaurant I ordered a dish of pasta with my favorite tiramisu for dessert.
Oceana Restaurant serving fresh seafood
The restaurants always had courteous waiters to serve you. Breakfast was served buffet style with lots of options from fresh fruits, pastries, as well as hot dishes of scrambled eggs. I prefer having breakfast this way as you can take as little or much as you want.
The restaurants always had cozy seating for dinners perfect for romance. The only one I didn’t get to try was the seafood restaurant which was located by the pool. Tis the rainy season so we had quite the downpour that night.
I have a food allergy so it’s a good idea to let your waiter know before ordering. The waiter kindly checked with the chef to confirm this could be accommodated for the dish I had chosen. During the low season the restaurants were never crowded or rushed so you could take your time to enjoy your meal.
Explorer Club Kids
Right next to the main building is kids Explore Club for ages 3-12 years. Here’s you’ll find a supervised area, and playground for your kids. It’s also fenced in to keep the little ones safe.
The preferred section has its own private pool by the beach. If you’re a couple with no kids I’m sure you will appreciate this area for some quiet time to spend together. During the slow season, I didn’t find it necessary for myself. The restaurant is convenient right next door by the beach with an open-air feel to grab some lunch. They had placed netting around the perimeter but those pesky birds are smart and still manage to get in. Several iguanas pasted by as well. I guess they could smell the food!
Located as you come off the elevators from your rooms is a bar with lots of seating. This is where I spent the first few hours before check in to catch up on some work. I loved stopping by and talking to the bartender about his country. They always know so much! Beside the bar was a piano which would be nice to listen and enjoy a drink after dinner.
I stopped in earlier in the day to check out the spa facilities. The staff member graciously gave me a tour which I really appreciated. I thought for a minute about having a massage so I asked what she would suggest. Swedish it was!
The spa is really nice, you’ll enjoying pampering yourself here just a little. I will tell you don’t forget to bring your swimsuit for the sauna and pool area. This is something I didn’t think of at all. I think being in a rush it slipped my mind. At this time they were doing lots of renovations to the Jacuzzi area so I missed out on this experience.
The massage was a great experience the only thing missing was some music.
Having an outdoor patio with lush green gardens, views of the pool & ocean will give you a chance to unwind, have a drink and perhaps finish that novel that you’ve been carrying with you. This area offers shade from the sun & rain but still has an open-air feel.
By the pool are shade covered lounge chairs if you prefer to relax, listen to your music or read a book. Washrooms & the pool bar are conveniently located so you don’t have to walk far. Another nice feature to a smaller resort.
I found the resort to be very comfortable, with clean pools, and friendly people that always wanted to make your stay better. The food was delicious and presented with touches of garnishes to appeal to the eyes.
