The Ultimate 3 Day Trip to Saint Lucia

  • saint lucia vacation

Saint Lucia is a beautiful romantic island; known for its famous Pitons, cruise port in Castries, and luxury resorts for weddings & honeymoons.  Saint Lucia a volcanic island has some of the best beaches with golden sand in the north and fantastic scuba diving.

Most of the small Inn’s and resorts are tucked away in secluded coves from Castries to Marigot Bay, Soufriere in the south, and along the Caribbean Coast of Rodney’s Bay.

Our schedule was full so I didn’t get to spend much time in the water or visiting the local restaurants in the area.  I tasted amazing island food at St James Club, Sandals Grande, Royalton, Coconut Bay, and appetizers at the Windjammer.  With an opportunity like this I couldn’t pass it up for first hand experience however travelers should look at least a 7-10 day trip to fully enjoy the island.

—–Here’s how I spent my ultimate 3 days in Saint Lucia—–

Stay at St James Club Morgan Bay

st james club morgan bay

St James Club Bay is located in the northern tip of the island.  This casual all-inclusive resort is only minutes away from Rodney’s Bay.  Families will love the 6 restaurants, 6 bars, 4 pools (adults only infinity as well), spa, kids club, and many water activities available right on the beach.

There are 335 rooms on 25 acres of land with tropical gardens.  My room was at the top of the hill overlooking the pools with a panoramic ocean view below.  Our room was located on the 4th floor so be prepared to climb lots of steps.  In our room, we had 2 single beds, tv, coffee maker, and temperature controlled air-conditioning.  Our balcony provided a convenient place to sit and relax watching the sunset.

To kick off our world-wind of an adventure we had our first dinner on the pier.  A special menu was made for our group of agents.  I started off with a roasted pumpkin soup (so need this recipe) simply delicious made with coconut milk, Mahi Mahi was my main course wrapped in a banana leaf served with vegetables, and a green fig salad.  For dessert “yes more coconut” coconut crème brulee to be exact.

It was a wonderful experience to have dinner on the pier.  The sounds of the waves below and open-air restaurant made for a perfect night.

Sandals Regency La Toc

Sandals La Toc is located south of the capital nestled on 220 acres with a 9-hole golf course in Castries.  The 331 rooms resort offers 23 categories of room types with beautiful mahogany four-poster beds, air-conditioning, private bath & shower with many amenities.

Your choice of 9 restaurants from Italian, Japanese, French cuisine to a British Pub.  I’m sure you’ll find something to satisfy your taste buds.

As a guest at Sandals Regency La Toc, you will be treated to an array of entertainment with live music, pianists to performances.  You will find the usual outdoor games & activities as well as watersports to fill up your week.

rendezvous saint lucia

Rendezvous Resort is located in the Northern part of the island with 100 rooms & suites.  What makes this adults-only resort special is it was once a coconut estate build by St Lucian Planter Dennis Barnard.  Later turned into a hotel to serve the commercial traveler.

Now with its lush gardens and unique charm, it’s the perfect hideaway for couples, honeymooners, and small weddings.  My favorites are the Seaside suites & Beachfront cottages located right on the beach.  Their gingerbread artwork on the entrance & pastel colors is what makes them feel warm & cozy.

Bel Jou Hotel

bel jou hotel saint lucia

Bel Jou Hotel is located atop of a hill perfect for couples looking for a small relaxing retreat.  Renovated in 2017 with a rooftop lounge this hotel offers panoramic views of the city & Caribbean Sea below.  With only 76 rooms & 4 rooms types, it offers a sanctuary for adults-only to enjoy.

Major interest such as Pigeon Island, Drive-In-Volcano, and Diamond Falls are all nearby.  We suggest renting a 4×4 manual to climb the steep hills in the area.  If driving isn’t for you shuttle service can always be accommodated to your needs.

Windjammer Landing

windjammer saint lucia

The Windjammer Landing in Saint Lucia will its hillside resort & beach villas are truly stunning.  Nestled on 60 acres located  on the northwest coast in Labrelotte Bay this all-inclusive property offers its guests plenty of activities for the whole family, a powdery white sand beach, 5 a la carte restaurants for dining and so much more.

The pools are crystal clear with the beach steps away.  Multiple families can take advantage of all the conveniences by staying in a villa.   Villas include a fully equipped kitchen, modern bedrooms, and all the conveniences of home but of course with scenic views & warm weather.

Each room & villas are filled with colorful island décor and comfy furniture to make you feel at home.

Royalton Saint Lucia

The Royalton Resort offers luxury accommodations to guests in 3 sections with the Hideaway for adults-only, Diamond Club with added amenities and the Royalton all surround the pools and kids splash area.  This modern resorts included butler service (in Diamond Club), free high-speed Wifi in all of the resort, restocked mini-bar daily.

Families will love the Clubhouse for kids ages 4 to 12 while teens ages 13-17 can escape the parents in the Hangout Teens Club.  The beach is only steps away from the center of activities.

Nothing is missed for dining options at 8 restaurants, enjoy European coffees or homemade gelato.

Sandals Grande

sandals grande swimout rooms saint lucia

Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort sits on 17 acres with 311 rooms just for couples.  My favorite feature of this resort is the overwater bungalows perfect for honeymoon couples.  In part of the floor is a glass section to view the fish swimming below.  Each of the rooms and suites includes a king bed, air-conditioning, and more with a balcony or patio.

Guests will love the outdoor Jerk Shack with authentic specialties and my favorite Josephine’s Creperie making made to order crepes & smoothies.  All the more reason to come back for the crepes.

For those who love to scuba dive for an additional fee you can be certified (DSD) you can also upgrade within 1 year to PADI (fees apply).  All the equipment is here waiting for you.

The gala dinner of our ultimate 3 day trip to Saint Lucia ended here at the Sandals Grande with a spectacular show of dancing, a violinist, and wonderful gourmet food.  Our meal start with yes again the pumpkin soup (so good), a salad, and then a surf & turf of lobster tail and steak done just perfectly.  This was truly my favorite Sandals resort in Saint Lucia.

Jade Mountain & Anse Chastanet

jade mountain

Sitting atop of the mountain is the gorgeous Jade Mountain & Anse Chastanet.  Each building is designed with sustainable practices and unique architecture.  Each of the 24 sanctuary rooms at Jade offers a view of the Pitons from your bed or infinity pool.  In addition, 5 Sky Jacuzzi Suites offer a large Jacuzzi tub big enough for two but no infinity pool.

Anse offers guest a choice of 49 rooms with 37 hillside & 12 garden & beach level.  Packages are available to include some or all meals, airport  transportation drinks for honeymooners or adventure packages including some activities such as diving, biking or guided hikes.

Whether you choose either location for your destination wedding, honeymoon or just a couples romantic getaway you won’t be disappointed with this truly 5-star property.

The roof top at Jade Mountain is the perfect place to enjoy a cocktail to watch the sunset or for photos of the Pitons.  Service at both locations is remarkable.

Serenity Coconut Bay

serenity at coconut bay

Serenity at Coconut Bay has the cutest suites for a private retreat.  Each of 36 suites has its own private entrance, plunge pool, hammock, outdoor wet bar, and corner lounge area.  This adults-only luxury haven has butler service, walk-in showers, king-size Mahogany beds with patio doors that open to the pool deck.

The Greathouse Restaurant has an extensive wine list with the best cuisine.  The beach is a short walk away from these suites.  Private in-room spa treatments are available.  At the serenity pool, you’ll find in-pool loungers as well a 6 shaded cabanas to keep the sun off.

Should you prefer to have room service there is a convenient box by the gate for staff to places meals without disturbing your privacy.

This property is one of my favorites for couples in the southern part of the island.

Coconut Bay

coconut bay saint lucia

Coconut Bay Beach Resort located in the southern part of Saint Lucia offers oceanfront fun for families staying on the Splash side of the resort or for couples wanting adults-only on the Harmony side of the resort.  This all-inclusive 250 rooms resorts has air-conditioned rooms, 9 restaurants, 7 bars, 5 pools, fitness center, spa, and the island’s largest waterpark for kids.

This resort is ideal for couples, honeymooners, weddings or families.  It’s only a 5-minute drive to the Hewanorra International Airport with complimentary transfers for guests who prefer to be close to the airport but still on the beach.

Our last two properties the Royal St Lucia Resort & Spa and Papillon by Rex Resorts will be soon under renovation as of December 2018.  While both are nice properties by the beach I could see they needed some TLC.

catamaran in saint lucia

On our last day of the ultimate 3 day trip to Saint Lucia was a catamaran ride from the bay over near Soufriere along the west coast.  Our group of agents started off with a continental breakfast aboard the vessel of coffee, tea, juice, fresh island fruits, and buns.  Our catamaran was large of over 120 people which made it a little crowded but still fun.  Normally I would suggest about maximum 50-75 people for an excursion.

We sailed in the Caribbean over to dock close to Jade Mountain for our site inspection.  If you love sailing definitely take a day or sunset cruise along the west coast.  There are adventure cruises & evening party cruises or perhaps a 16th Century replica pirate ship.

I had so much fun in Saint Lucia even though it was work related I can’t wait to go back an explore more of the land with tour companies.  While 3 days was long enough it was a taste of the island.
